📌 Course Prerequisites

To participate in the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Update Course, participants must meet the following requirements:

• Hold a current and valid American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers certification
• Hold a current and valid AHA ACLS Provider certification
• Complete the AHA ACLS Pre-Course Self-Assessment and submit the Pre-Course Self-Assessment Certification

⚠️ You must bring your original (physical or digital) unexpired AHA ACLS & BLS cards to class. Expired cards will not be accepted. We only honor cards through the end of the month in which they expire.

🩺 Course Overview

The ACLS Update Course is a condensed version of the initial ACLS Provider course, intended for experienced providers who are updating their certification. It reinforces the critical concepts of advanced cardiovascular care, including:

• High-quality BLS skills (CPR, bag-mask ventilation, AED)

• Recognition and management of respiratory and cardiac arrest

• Identification and management of peri-arrest conditions (e.g., symptomatic bradycardia)

• Airway management and related pharmacology

• Care for acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and stroke

• Effective communication and team leadership during resuscitation

• Resuscitation team dynamics

✅ Upon successful completion of all course components (skills testing, Megacode, and written exam), you will receive a two-year ACLS Provider e-card.

📚 Course Materials

• HNMC Employees may borrow a textbook prior to class from the Simulation Center office on 4 West – ISL. A payroll deduction form will be completed upon pickup and discarded once the book is returned.

• General Public participants may pick up their manual prior to class or receive it on the day of the course.

• Participants may also choose to purchase their own copy through authorized AHA vendors.

📝 Pre-Course Requirements

You are required to complete the AHA ACLS Pre-Course Self-Assessment prior to attending the class.

• Print your results showing a score of 70% or higher and bring it with you to class.

⚠️ Please Note:
The ACLS course does not teach ECG interpretation, pharmacology, or algorithms. You must review and understand this material prior to the course to successfully complete the training.

📧 E-Card Certification

Your AHA ACLS Provider e-card will be emailed to the address provided at registration within two weeks of successfully completing the course.
