About the Course:
Stroke Education – Bridging the Gap is 5.5 hour in person lecture and simulation based course focusing on the management of the acute stroke patient. Practice includes utilizing MEND exam to identify strokes which is an easy-to-learn and easy-to use tool that enhances communication among nurses, physicians and EMS personnel, The Bridging the Gap curriculum is utilized by hospitals and EMS agencies across the United States.
Stroke Education – Bridging the Gap is a practical, hands-on, 5.5 hour course that:
Was developed by Holy Name subject matter experts in stroke, emergency medicine, prehospital care and nursing education
Is continuously updated and improved with evidence based practices
Provides a unique neurologic assessment tool, the MEND exam, which is ideal for both prehospital and hospital use
Learning Objectives:
Describe why early treatment may result in a marked reduction in risk of stroke disability
Identify the five main stroke syndromes and relate them to pathophysiology and clinical signs
Perform a focused evaluation to identify stroke, its location and severity
Describe the principles of stroke management that make up the current standard of care for both prehospital and hospital healthcare providers
